Pilot V Pen
The Pilot V Pen, commonly referred to as the Varsity, is a disposable fountain pen with a medium stainless steel nib and premium writing experience. Additionally, this model features an ink level window to show the pen’s ink levels at any given moment.
Writing with this ink works every time, even after sitting uncapped for a minute or more. Plus it’s cost-effective, long-wearing and erasable with standard ink eradicators.
Nib
The Pilot V Pen (Varsity in the US) is a disposable fountain pen featuring a medium stainless steel nib for premium writing experiences at an incredibly cost-effective price. Ideal for newcomers to fountain pens or as an everyday carry option, its visible ink window, modern mechanism regulating ink flow regulation and large capacity make this an excellent value purchase.
The stainless steel nib feels somewhat plasticky and lacks flexibility, but writes very smoothly compared to even less costly disposable fountain pens. Furthermore, it writes well upside down making this pen particularly handy and the nib is marked as M but is thicker than what might be considered typical Japanese Ms – more like standard international sizes.
The body of this pen is composed of thin injection-molded plastic with a live hinge at its nib section. Although short in hand, it’s still comfortable. The design is simplistic but makes this affordable; its look and feel are minimal due to this feature; its metal clip may last longer; however, its cap doesn’t open all of the way, limiting its potential uses as an airplane pen; finally it does not pass airport security restrictions either (though I wouldn’t risk flying with one anyway!).
Body
A very inexpensive disposable fountain pen featuring a quality steel nib and visible ink reservoir. Erasable and available in multiple bright colours, it makes an excellent starter fountain pen or backup option for people who use their pen frequently. It is suitable as both starter fountain pen for beginners as well as backup backup.
The Pilot Varsity offers an exceptionally comfortable writing experience with its stainless steel nib featuring a laser cut, rudimentary edge. It has a large “sweet spot”, making writing effortless even when held upside down, although not waterproof. Furthermore, its plastic body may feel short in your hand but doesn’t feel cheap or fragile; making this pen even lighter than Kaweco Sport or Platinum Preppy without clips!
The V-System ink regulator ensures instant and controlled ink flow from the first time you put pen to paper until its last drop dries on the page. Featuring a medium point stainless steel nib and easily visible through transparent barrel, this cheap yet reliable pen for everyday use also looks very smart! All orders placed before 3pm (Mon-Fri except bank holidays) will be despatched the same day regardless if personalisation has been added – including items which require personalisation!
Feed
As opposed to most Pilot pens, the Varsity doesn’t feature a traditional fountain pen feed – instead, it features a ridged plastic feeder filled with ink. You should remove this by gently prying apart and pry apart so it releases from its position on the body of the pen; place it into water to soak out old ink; run under cool water to clean out further; finally wipe down with paper towel after soaking so all residual ink has been removed before refilling your Varsity with new ink before refilling it next time.
Reinstall the new feed and nib section by pushing it back in. It should fit easily, though you may feel some resistance just before it pops fully into place. Just be cautious not to overpress it or you risk breaking or scratching up the nib tip.
Once the pen are assembled, simply select your ink color of choice and add it using a dropper or syringe so you don’t overfill it accidentally. Once completed, they’re ready for writing! When starting up, just remember to take a breath before writing due to capillary action in this pen – then enjoy writing away! This fun yet functional, affordable and reliable pen will definitely meet all of your writing needs.
Cap
Pilot Varsity fountain pens, commonly known in Europe as V Pen and in the US as Pilot Varsity, combine comfort and convenience of rollerball pens with the fine writing stroke of fountain pens. You’ll receive this pen ready-to-use with ink already loaded into its barrel; an indicator window allows you to monitor how much ink remains; standard ink eradicators work quickly to erase its contents, and its cap fits securely around its body for safe use.
The cap is constructed of soft plastic that may seem affordable at first glance, yet feels durable and well-constructed. It comes equipped with a plastic clip in matching color which snaps securely on. Compared to similar-sized pens this one weighs only just under 3g when capped and only 2.66g when uncapped.
The feed/nib assembly of this budget pen is impressively effective. While not the smoothest nib ever experienced, this low-cost option starts up immediately and writes consistently wet and clean without skipping or blotting, all while offering premium writing feel. Perfect for beginners as a first pen; also handy to have around as back up for experienced users or simply carry in your bag daily for quick notes or reminders.
